Update News and future pricing.

Hello everyone. how is it going?

This is mainly a news post, and I have some good news and some bad news for you. There's also some important information for future updates, so please read!

The good news first: the next update is coming soon!
It's looking good for a release late next month. My goal for this release was to include day 10 and 11, most of day 10 is done and day 11 (which doesn't have as many complex scenes as day 10) is partially finished.

One reason for it taking so long was that one of my GPU's died, which happened basically right at the moment I started working on this update. You can probably guess that it really slowed the rendering down a lot and with the market situation for GPU's over the last few months, it was basically impossible to get a new one. I simply didn't have enough money to get one of the GPU's I need and I also didn't want to reward scalpers, so there was one only thing I could do: Buy a complete new system where the GPU is included. The problem: I still didn't have enough money... which brings us to the bad news:

Many of you might already know: BM successfully released on Steam in May. I thought long and hard about it and the step towards Steam was crucial for me to be able to buy new hardware, so now I do have the hardware I need, but one big problem:
Steam doesn't like it when the same game I'm selling on their platform if being released for free on another platform, which is no surprise and totally understandable.
For the initial release I was able to circumvent it by including a little bit of content from the upcoming update, so it's not exactly the same version, but due to how I work it's not always possible to make seperate versions. I also don't like the idea of giving different amounts of content to different groups.

So I have two options right now:
1. Remove the game from one of the platforms.
2. Equal version and pricing on every platform.

I don't like the first option tbh. I like Itch, it's a nice independant platform. Steam... well Steam was the goal for my next project anyway, removing BM now might cause some trouble in the future, which I really don't want to risk.

So I'll have to go with the 2. option, which means as soon as I release the next update I'll also add the same price the Steam version has: €8.99.
BUT! (that's one T you perv!)
Everyone who "owns" the game already here on itch will still receive all future updates for free and everyone who downloads the game before the next update is life, will also still get game and updates for free ;)
Unless you want to pay something of course, in that case: thank you very much :)

TL;DR:
Update coming soon!
With the update comes a price change.

Okay, this post is long enough, I don't want to bother you any longer, so:

Have a good one and stay safe!

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times already so apologies in advance. How do I get the new version without needing to pay? Since the game files are on mega, the itch.io desktop app doesn't get auto updates for it. If there's really no way to get it I'd gladly pay for it but if there's a way to avoid paying I'd like to do that.

It has been asked before, yes. The problem isn't that it's on mega, but that you don't "own" it. I wasn't entirely sure how this works on itch, so I recommended to buy the game as long as it was "Pay what you want" to be on the save side. Now it's too late though :/

So how does this work? I've had the game in my library since I first downloaded the game, but it still wants me to pay for the update? That's not how your post made it sound. Am i missing something?

(+1)

I said everyone who "owns" the game, note the quotation marks. I've mentioned a few times here in the posts that I also did not know how this works here on itch and recommended to buy the game for the cheapest price possible as long as it was possible if you wanted to make a 100% sure.

There's one thing you can try though, but I'm not sure if this works for anyone other than me, so be aware that you might delete the game for nothing:
If the game is in your library > delete the game, from your library > re-download the game (if it lets you).
Since the old version is not available anymore, it should only be able to download the new version.

So I'll have to pay now? I downloaded this game before how will I be able to update it?

If you bought it before you can download it from your library.

(+2)

I found it on steam and I'll buy it there so I can support you and I didn't pay for Bad Memories I downloaded it when I had the option to not pay

You should've read the news before^^

(+1)

Yeah...that was my bad I apologize

have this game to download to free user's to future also? or is this only who buy next version here?

(+1)

I'm not entirely sure how it works here on itch, my guess is that it's enough if you have it in your library, but if you want to make a 100% sure you should probably buy it.

(+2)

i recently bought your Game here because Steam blocks this type of Game in some Countries, thanks for offering it here too.

Hi BM,
So I installed the Itch installer and payed for your game. But the installer says the game can't be installed because it's hosted on an incompatible 3rd party platform?

Where did I go wrong?

(1 edit)

hey!

if itch says that you own the game don't worry.

after the update, it would be playable

I hope that I'm not saying anything wrong.

I've got the same problem if you scroll down you can see the whole thing on the main page of the game

I'm afraid I'm not a experienced Itch user. I've downloaded an number of VN's. Paid some a little... I do have a number of games in my Library... But I don't know if I actually "own" any games here. :-/

How should I be able to confirm that? :-)

Once the new update is done and up, you'll be able to install it via itch, right now the game is hosted on mega because of itch's file-size limitations, but by now these restrictions don't apply anymore, so as I said, next update will be on itch directly.

just a point about steam, and this is totally directed at steam policies, not your choices whatsoever.
if steam really was the value-adding platform it claims to be, then they'd have absolutely no problem with varying prices.
because if a platform really is adding that extra value, then ppl would choose it even if the price was more expensive because the added value (like exposure to a larger audience, inbuilt marketing tools, consolidating game databases etc) would effectively counteract those higher prices. their policies just demonstrate the need for strict anti-monopoly laws,. as that company would surely enforce a monopoly however it could if it could.

cant wait for the next update. thank you very much or the advance warning, and the 'concession' you have  granted to your supporters here :)
both signs of a fan-focused dev for sure :)

(+3)(-1)

Well you could argue that steam just wants to make sure you don't exploit it as a pure marketing site, which is understandable imo.

(+1)

good point. in any case, dont think im complaining, gotta say, i really appreciate you choosing the steam model over the patreon model

I mean offering different versions of the same product is a mainstay of the gaming industry, the amount of console-exclusive or store-exclusive DLCs is wiiiide, so for Steam to go "you can't offer an inferior version of your product for free" is purely done to try and maintain their market share over actual philosophies or ideals.

(+1)

Sounds like a tough decision but seems like you have your fans in mind when you made it. I bought on Steam on a whim after playing thru the whole thing on here first. I was new to itch at the time and it was just easier to buy it on Steam for me, although I realize you don't get the same cut. I also played your other game too, and have seen you on some other devs Discords and you seem like a chill person so I'll happily support you more in the future; whether on here or Patreon (I'm still not on there and weary due to a lot of the games I've played being booted/at risk of being booted due ToS which I understand to be Visa/Mastercard stuff more than Patreon itself). Anyhow, this game was, by chance I guess, actually my first introduction to AVNs like 2 months ago and the story is still one of my favorites after playing many other games to get thru this pandemic shit that doesn't seem to want to end. keep up the good work, and hope some luck comes your way to figure out those gpu troubles.

(+1)

Thanks a lot, glad to hear it was me who took your (AVN) virginity xD

GPU troubles have been solved already (luckily), that's why there is an update around the corner^^

I have 1 question about steam, I read some of the comments here but I wanted to make sure. So if I buy the game on steam will I have to keep buying the game every new update? Or will other updates be free on steam for the people who bought it there.

(Problem Solved I dug down the comments a little deeper and saw someone else ask the same question)

(1 edit)

How will itch know we own the game? I assumed through the itch.io desktop app, but whenever I try to download the game there, it says it can't because Mega isn't supported

(-1)

In that case you'll have to buy it, I had to use mega because of itch'es file size restrictions with the last one or two releases, earlier releases used to be hosted on itch directly so if you had one of those, it should be in your library.

As I mentioned earlier, I'll be using itch's butler software for the next update, so it will be downloadable from itch again.

Brother i love your work and hoestly it took only 2 days to finsh the story untill this last update.so basically i have played many game like this also available on itch luke show dayz and sisterly lust and kidnaped girl (steam ) so i have 2 questions one: do we have to dowunload(0.98gb) and install update or is there gona be something else. Two:the ones who hav downloaded the game for free will get the next updates for free too or we have to pay. And i also have it in my libary. Anyways great game tho noice story i am very curious for next update. Tc bye.

(+1)

Like I said before:

I'm not a 100% sure myself, but I think if it's in your library, it will count. If you really want to make sure, you can "buy" it for a $0.01
Regarding the update download, I'll use butler (the itch software to upload) for the next update, I don't remember which version was the last I uploaded to itch directly, so it might be that you'll have to download (more than) a GB.
(+1)

Well we will see thanx for replying and also i forgot to mention that the 18+ disclamer was sick i like that its kinda funny and sexy in its own way noice game bro really appreciate the work you are great developer and even when you are busy you managed to rely me that means alot.thank you again from deep down in my hart.

ok bad at understanding some thing, we need to buy the game on the next updated and then we are good for all new updates, or have to buy each update?

(+1)(-1)

You buy it once, all updates are free.

(+1)

This last month I decided to purchase the game on steam because I wanted to support your work (had already played the game here) so it doesn't affect me, but I'd like to say thanks for both the great game and your taking care to give us quality content essentially for free.

(+1)(-1)

You're welcome :D

(+1)

Since Steam doesn't allow these kinds of games in my country, option one would basically mean no way of playing your games for me, so I like the option you chose (and I already bought it here) :) Can't wait for the update! Your animations are some of the best when it comes to VNs and I really love the characters.

(+1)

Thanks :)

and yeah that's another problem, I'm aware of it.

Would defenitly pay if I could, now my question is, If I downloaded the game when the last update came out and deleted it cuz im on Android and the storage is limited af, does that count as owning the game or not?

As I already said:
"I'm not a 100% sure myself, but I think if it's in your library, it will count. If you really want to make sure, you can "buy" it for a $0.01"

if i understood correctly no

No you won't, the reason why I'm changing the price here from "free" to "same-price-as-steam" is because both will get the same version from the next update onwards.

(+2)

As long as the price is reasonable, I'll pay for the game on steam, so long as future updates are included in the purchase price as "updates".

It took me about 5 ads to get because I have the app but I did and I will pay for it anyway you deserve it
